Why am I unable to download a SlideShare?

Amit Ranjan January 6, 2010

Below are solutions to common problems that can appear when downloading SlideShares:

Case 1:  When I download the SlideShare I get the error, “This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below…… ”

  • This error message means that the file does not exist on our servers anymore. Please submit a ticket if you encounter this issue when downloading a file.

Case 2:  I clicked download and the process has been going on for a while, and it does not seem to be stopping or giving me the SlideShare.

  • This problem can happen when you try to download a large PDF file. If you have a PDF plugin installed in your browser, downloading the file will activate the PDF plugin and the file will open in your browser, which can take some time. A simple workaround for this is to disable the PDF plugin in your browser, download the file, and re-enable the plugin again

Case 3: I am trying to download a SlideShare after signing up, and was told that the link to download the file would be emailed to me. However, it hasn't arrived yet.

  • If your account has not yet been verified or if the author of the presentation has enabled a lead form, we will send you a download link for the file in your email. However, if you do not receive this email, please make sure the email address you have provided us is correct. The email may also be in your spam or junk folders.

Case 4: The save link is grayed out and can not be clicked on/it says 'Save disabled by author.'

  • The uploader of the SlideShare has disabled downloading. More details can be found here.

When I right-clicked my mouse on the "Download" link of a file, it showed "talent-talk-webinar-rethinking-your-recruiting-metrics-in-a-down-economy-2065966.htm " instead of "xxxx.pdf" or "xxx.pptx", etc.

This issue happened before and disappeared after re-login.

Case 2. Either it doesn't work and they don't want to admit it; they are too cheap to pay for any download bandwidth or they don't want us to download stuff to try and lock people in.

Click here if the download doesn't start within 5 second

Nothing downloads anymore.  Ever since they switched to the ad page where you have to wait 5 seconds, I haven't been able to download anything.  I've tried different files and different browsers and still I get the same thing.  Ugh, this is such a pain in the ass.

I also cannot download the presentation. I am using a Chrome browser on a Mac.  You had mentioned to turn off the pdf plugin but I do not know how to do this.  VERY FRUSTRATING!!!

(Also, your pages look pretty strange on the Chrome browser.)

Downloads dont work.

I attempted to download http://www.slideshare.net/jathey/best-practices-for-metadata-in-dam... it told me it would start.... I waited 5 minutes for nothing.   So I clicked on the link to manually download it. It opened a PDF window stating the file was corrupted.

Slideshare sucks at downloading PDF files.

I complained about this problem weeks ago when I attempted to download a series of different PDF slide shows.  None of them downloaded. Slideshare emailed me stating they'd look into it that it was an engineering problem.  Then it was closed without any of them working.

They really don't care about the download process.

Telling people to turn off a PDF plug in is stupid and lazy response.  Invest in a simple mechanism that simply downloads PDFs.  Many companies offer them and many other pieces of software (including most corporate web sites) do this really well.

Hello everyone, I haven't experience this type of problems/errors in downloading the file. Maybe you can try to use other web browsers like Mozilla Firefox to download the file. Hope to hear about your feedback's soon. ~Wind Turbines
