Can you explain how the Slidecasting synchronization tool works? What are the various parts of it?

There are three parts to the Slidecasting synchronization tool:

1. Slide Selector: Select and navigate the slides here. You can see three slides at a time. Use this as a reference to sync the audio accordingly. You can also see which slide corresponds to which marked out section of the audio file, on synchronization.

2. Synchronization Workspace: This contains the audio associated with your presentation. The actual sync between slides and audio is done here, by moving the blue start and end bars and positioning them, as the red 'play' bar moves across the entire Synchronization Workspace.

3. Audio Selector: This is where you navigate across the entire audio using the drag window. The red 'play' bar moving across the Synchronization Workspace can be tracked using this window.

Now that you have identified the various sections of the tool, follow these steps to sync your Slidecast:

  • When the audio upload is complete, the landing screen shows the audio divided equally across the total number of slides. We suggest that you start with this to adjust the audio on a per slide basis. Alternatively, you can remove all the markings and start afresh
  • Click on Slide 1, in the Slide Selector: You will see the Synchronization Workspace, alongside the red play bar
  • Let the audio buffer and then play it in the Audio Selector
  • You will see the red play bar moving across both the Audio Selector and the Synchronization Workspace, pause the audio as soon as the required audio for slide one is complete.  i.e. the red play bar is now at the end of the precise position where slide two should begin
  • Now in the Synchronization Workspace, click and drag the blue end bar to the current position of the red bar. You have now successfully assigned the audio piece to slide one
  • You will see the timing details at the bottom of the Slide one on the Slide Selector
  • Now click on slide two on the Slide Selector
  • A start and the end blue bar shows up in the Synchronization Workspace
  • Play audio again in the Audio Selector. Again pause it once the red play bar reaches the end of the required audio piece for slide two
  • Now move the blue end bar to the current position of the red play bar. You have now successfully assigned the audio piece to slide two
  • Continue the process for the remaining set of slides
  • Use the buttons on the Slide Selector to traverse across each slide in sets of three. Drag the window in Audio Selector to move across the audio file and set markings across the Synchronization Workspace

Is it possible to truncate an uploaded audio file (e.g. removing x seconds at the beginning or end)

I still don't understand.

You say it so simply and yet I'll bet many of us do not understand it.

Does the audio need to be playing when we drag the bar to the next slide?

When I did that I ran out of bottom window on the 6th slide.

is that when I should have dragged the draggable bottom window and to where?

Should we do all of the dragging while it's not running and then check the timing?

What do we do when the lowest window runs out?

Is that when we're supposed to drag the draggable window to allow us to keep editing the timong in the windows on top?

Do we drag the red bar to a certain point and then the very lowest bar to be able to keep doing it to the end?

I will offer myself as a guinea pig to help develop a more complete and understandable tutorial if that would help you not be bothered by us and help more people understand it better.

Thanks,

Rick

Is there alternative services for publishing slidecasts? It looks like slideshare doesn't support slidecasting any more. Synchronization tool is empty.

It did not give me enough  marks to sync the rest of my slides.  How do I get more marks for my last 4 slides?
