What is LeadShare? How does it work?

leadsharevs.png

LeadShare is SlideShare's (patent pending) service to allow businesses to collect customer leads through their presentations, documents and videos. When you activate LeadShare, there will be three ways that viewers can contact you about your product or service:

  1. When the viewer tries to download the original presentation/PDF file, they will be asked to fill out a short contact form.
  2. When the viewer is browsing through the presentation, the contact form will show up (after slide 10, at the end, or via a permanent display button on the player).
  3. If the presentation is embedded on a blog, website, forum, social network etc., the lead form will appear there as well.

Any of these three options can be used to capture lead that will show up in your account under the LeadShare section of your PRO Dashboard (and gets emailed to you). You can follow up with each lead individually for your business prospects.

Do I need to upload presentations before I can collect leads?

Yes, you do. The quality of the content determines the views it gets and in turn the number of leads it collects.

Apart from presentations, you can collect leads with any file that can be uploaded to SlideShare. This could be documents, PDFs, txt, spreadsheets etc. We support all major formats from Microsoft Office, Apple Keynote, and Open Office.

What is the quality of leads from LeadShare? And what kind of contact information can I collect in the lead form?

Leads collected with LeadShare are genuine. They are opt-in i.e. from people who are interested in your content and have willfully opted-in to fill your lead form.

You can collect names, email addresses, organization information, mailing addresses and phone numbers. You can also collect specific information via custom questions.

We suggest asking for as little information as possible as this increases your chances of collecting leads.

  • Question Qualification: You can ask for more information (address, phone number) and up to 5 custom questions to qualify leads.

What is the overlap between downloading of files and leads in LeadShare? Can I have LeadShare running on my document which has been disabled for download?

Here are four cases that arise due to the overlap between downloading of files, and downloading of leads in LeadShare:

  1. Lead form on download (ON) + File Download setting (ON): The file is downloadable, and its download is gated by the lead form. The viewer will fill the lead form and he will get an email with the download link. Lead collection inside player will be on as usual.
  2. Lead form on download (ON) + File Download setting (OFF): The file will not be downloadable, and the download leads will be turned off.  Only lead collection inside player will be applicable in this case.
  3. Lead form on download (OFF) + File Download setting (ON): The file is downloadable. The customer will not be required to fill out the lead form to download the content.
  4. Lead form on download (OFF) + File Download setting (OFF): The file is not downloadable.

Does SlideShare offer LeadShare APIs for third party developers? Are the APIs free?

Yes, we offer LeadShare APIs for third party developers. Please go to our developer section for details. The APIs are free for non-commercial use. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have further questions about API usage.

Can I run LeadShare on my videos?
SlideShare now supports professional videos and you can run LeadShare on them. The process is just the same as with other content. A LeadShare campaign can run for all of the content or you can have different campaigns for different types of content.

Can I see samples of the lead form?

Here are some sample lead collection forms:

How can I select documents to put in my LeadShare campaign?

Here are the three ways you can select documents for a LeadShare campaign:

  • Select all your uploaded documents
  • Select a particular document
  • Select all documents with a particular tag

To select documents with a particular tag, follow the steps below:

  • Go to the drop down menu on the top right of every page and select PRO Dashboard
  • Under the Capture Leads feature, click on the Manage link
  • Click on the edit link of the campaign
  • Scroll down to bottom and click on the Show lead form on drop down menu
1.png
  • Select the tag for your uploads
2.png

If you want to hand pick a bunch of documents from all the ones you have uploaded, use the tagging feature.

What happens if the same user visits more than one of my documents or presentations? Do they have to fill out the form every time?

No, a user will only be asked to fill out your lead form once as it avoids you receiving duplicate leads.  This may result in your download count being higher than your lead count.

I have 5 different documents uploaded in my SlideShare account. Do I have to set up 5 different LeadShare campaigns?

There is no limit to how many campaigns you can set up, or how many documents can be part of one campaign. Choose whatever combination works for you. If you want to show the same lead collection form on all your documents, just create one campaign and put all your documents in it. In case you want to show different lead forms on different documents, you would have to set up separate campaigns and customize your lead form for each one.

How can I capture more leads with LeadShare?

The most important thing to do is to upload a set of high-quality content that will appeal to your potential customers. Providing a compelling offer in your Get in touch form is also extremely important. Remember that users need an incentive to fill out the form. Offering a free e-book, a price quote, or perhaps an opportunity for a lunch meeting will be perceived as valuable and is likely to be more effective than simply saying Get in touch.

Apart from that, here are some other ways to increase velocity of capturing leads:

  • Upload more content
  • Make sure your lead form is appearing on download
  • Check the Make form compulsory to view further option
  • Keep the number of questions on the lead form to a minimum

How does the “Make form compulsory to view further” option work?

If you enable the Make form compulsory to view further option, people will not be able to view the complete document/presentation unless they complete the lead form. This decreases the number of leads you will capture, but may increase lead quality as it requires more commitment from the viewer to complete the form. We suggest using this option with care.

Why am I getting poor quality leads? How can I change this?

If you are not satisfied with the quality of your leads, try these following options:

  • Change your geographical targeting so it is relevant to your business
  • Try turning off leads in file downloads, sometimes file downloading gives lower quality leads
  • If you have activated the Make form compulsory to view further option, this may lower lead quality, make the form optional
  • If the lead form is showing after slide/page 10, sometimes this might result in lower quality leads, try moving the position of the lead form to the end

Configure these options by following the steps below:

  • Go to the drop down menu on the top right of every page and select PRO Dashboard
  • Under the Capture Leads feature, click on the Manage link
  • Click on the Edit link for a particular campaign
  • Scroll down and click on the Advanced Options link to open an expanded menu
  • Configure the options as desired

Please read our best practices section for LeadShare. It can help you maximize the ROI for LeadShare.

A few leads I collected look like comments or felicitations on my presentation, rather than business leads. How can I stop this?

The lead collection in LeadShare happens as part of the viewing experience. Viewers may express their opinion about your content via comments, and in the process, fill out the lead form. To stop this, here is what we suggest:

  • Make the lead form optional so the people who do not want to contact you just skip it
  • Change your form headline and offer text so that it appeals only to those who are genuinely  interested in your product/service
  • If possible, try to modify your presentation's content, so that it persuades the viewer to fill out the lead form

Can I change the campaign details i.e. modify questions and/or information asked for, once the campaign is running?

Yes, you can change information/questions even after the campaign is running by following the steps below:

  • Go to the drop down menu on the top right of every page and select PRO Dashboard
  • Under the Capture Leads feature, click on the Manage link
1.png
  • Click on the Edit link for a particular campaign
2.png
  • Scroll down and click on the Advanced Options link to open an expanded menu
  • Configure the options as desired

 3.png

I want to download the leads I have collected in an excel sheet. Is this possible?

Yes, you can download a CSV file containing all the leads that have been collected in a campaign. This CSV file can be readily opened in Microsoft Excel for analysis.

To learn how to download the CSV file, follow the steps below:

  • Go to the drop down menu on the top right of every page and select PRO Dashboard
  • Under the Capture Leads feature, click on the Manage link
  • Click on the download icon   under the Leads Collected column
  • View or edit the CSV file

Is it possible to collect leads on my company website? What about other websites or blogs where my presentation is embedded?

You can collect leads on your company website just as you collect them on SlideShare. There is no extra cost involved. Just embed the presentation on your website, blog, forum etc., and the lead form will appear there as well. This works just like the lead collection on SlideShare. If the presentation gets popular and is embedded in other blogs and social networks, the lead form will show up on each one of those as well.

We embedded SlideShare presentations on our company website six months ago and want to collect leads with these. Do we have to copy/paste the embedded code again?

No, you will not need to copy/paste the embedded code again. As soon as you activate the LeadShare campaign (containing that document), the lead form will show up automatically. If you stop the campaign, the lead form will be deactivated. You get full control over this.

What are community norms for capturing leads?

At SlideShare, the leads collection program has been carefully designed to balance the needs of the business owner (who is capturing leads) and the viewer (who is reading document and might fill out form). While the business owner wants to capture genuine leads, the viewer wants to view the document and complete the form if the content is interesting. We ask you to always keep the end viewer and their interests in mind.

  • Please do not upload documents with little or no content (for example, a one page document about your business with hardly any content). We discourage this, and you might be disqualified from the lead program.
  • Please give some value to the viewer. Such content is likely to bring in more leads than commercial content.
  • Please ask relevant questions. Several questions may deter the user.

What is the refund policy for LeadShare?

We do not have a refund policy for LeadShare.

Do you have a Terms of Service for LeadShare?

Yes, please read our Business Terms of Service

Can I use the lead collection program to run a user survey instead of collecting leads?

Yes, you can. While LeadShare is primarily designed as a lead collection programs, the core technology is built in a way that it can be used for small contextual surveys as well. Simply set up the form and use the custom questions to ask whatever you want. You can choose from a single line answer or multiple choice selections in the custom questions. Once the responses are collected, the data can be downloaded in the CSV format.

THIS QUESTION IS RELEVANT ONLY FOR THOSE USERS WHO HAD PAY-PER-LEAD CAMPAIGNS RUNNING BEFORE MARCH 28TH, 2011. READ THIS FORUM TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THIS.

How does the pay-per-lead system for LeadShare?

For SlideShare pay-per-lead, the cost of one lead can range from $3 (when you just ask for name, email address, organization, message and no geographic targeting), to $22 (email address, organization, geo targeting, address, phone number, content blocking and 5 custom questions). You can decide what type of leads you are interested in capturing. Remember that asking more questions reduces the number of people who complete lead form. These options will increase the cost of leads on SlideShare

       $3 : Name, email address & organization/company, message
    + $2 : Geographical targeting
    + $2 : Postal Address
+ $2 : Each Custom Question (upto 5 custom questions allowed
